The Wroclaw City Canal

Subject

Adaptation of the City Canal in Wrocław to allow the passage of the Great Control Water.

THE PURPOSE OF THE INVESTMENT

The aim of the investment was to introduce the City Canal to the flood protection system of the city of Wrocław. To this end, the City Canal has been rebuilt and adapted to transmit large flood waters with a fixed probability of being exceeded. This applies to exceptional situations in which it will be necessary to use all existing canals and river channels to save the city of Wrocław from flooding.

Scope of the development

The development covered the area of the City Canal along with the upper position of the existing Flood Gate and the lower and upper position of the City Lock, i.e. from the separation of the waters of the Old Oder River above the Psie Pole Weir to the re-connection with the Old Oder River channel in the area of the Municipal Port

The development included:

  • construction along the left bank of boulevards on the section from the existing Flood Gate to the Trzebnicki Bridge;
  • reconstruction of the left bank protection on the section from the Trzebnicki Bridge to the Osobowicki Bridge;
  • renovation of the right bank protection on the section from the existing flood gate to the Osobowicki Bridge;
  • construction of protection on the slope of the distribution dike from the Municipal Canal on the section from the existing Flood Gate to the Osobowicki Bridge;
  • construction of an ecological island at the level of ul. Rychtalska;
  • project of planting on the crown of the dike in the section above and below the Trzebnicki Bridge by supplementing the existing rows of trees;
  • unblocking and insurance of the construction of the Warsaw road bridge (the old one), the Warsaw railway bridge, the Trzebnicki Bridge and the Osobowicki Bridge;
  • construction of a new inlet building above the existing Flood Gate (Storm Bridge);
  • construction of a service bridge at the planned inlet structure;
  • renovation of the existing Flood Gate (Storm Bridge);
  •  renovation of the service building at the Psie Pole Weir;
  • construction of an office building with a warehouse part next to the existing weir service building Psie Pole;
  •  reconstruction of the separation levee and elevation of the crown above the level of flood waters from the Flood Gate (Storm Bridge) to the planned new inlet building;
  • reconstruction of protection on the left bank, together with shaping of the section between the Flood Gate (Storm Bridge) and the planned inlet building in the form of a quay and renovation of the existing dirt road;
  • modernization of the City Lock together with flood gates, reconstruction of the lower and upper stations, construction of control rooms and pumping stations;
  • reconstruction of the distribution language below the City Lock together with shaping the shoreline in the form of quays for small and large units, construction of dolphins.

Under the contract, a multi-variant concept, information sheet of the project, environmental impact report with a decision on environmental conditions for the implementation of the project (cross-border impact), water law reports for the execution of water structures with a decision on a water law permit, construction design with a decision on a building permit, executive documentation, cost, specifications for the execution and acceptance of works.
